Train Ticket Help Please!
Hiya
I'm planning on going from Durham to Manchester Piccadilly on 7th July. Originally my plan was to go to Leeds but we decided upon Manchester instead.
I have an open return ticket between Leeds and Durham to use so just bought an advance single for £17, so my journey between Durham and Leeds return is covered.
Now for my question, I've looked online at tickets for the trains I was getting there and back and advance singles are out of the question between Leeds and Manchester.
So, would it be cheaper to just buy a off peak return between the two at Durham station on the morning of travel, or would/could I ask for an extension of my ticket on the train and would this make it any cheaper? I'm only asking because I went on from Manchester to Newcastle instead of Durham and the ticket was cheaper than a usual single between the two places.
Also, could I get in trouble for split ticketing at all on this? I didn't really want to have to change trains but with the journey between Durham and Leeds already paid for if I have to then that'll be ok.
Thanks, and sorry if this is long winded!

You cannot 'get an extension' on an Advance Single ticket.
Also, if you use split ticketing then the train must stop at the station where the split takes place.
Yes, use an Off Peak Return between Leeds and Manchester, of if returning the same day an Off Peak Day Return will save about £2.00.
Remember, with Advance Singles you must travel on the booked train.0 -
Your best bet is to check the cheapest option (extension or off peak return) at Durham before you leave there in the morning.
The off peak day return is surely going to be cheaper though - it's £16.50. To extend you are going to need to throw away your £17 advance ticket.
As all trains stop at Leeds split ticketing is in no way a problem0 -
Thank you for your help
I'm coming back on the 8th (next day) so it would be £17.80 I think for an off-peak return between Manchester and Leeds. So if I can't get an extension on an advance purchase ticket that answers my question.
Thank you!0
