have the decency to argue with people via private messaging, not on someones thread.
Alternatively, find out where they are and have it out face to face.

Thanks for taking my thread off topic :(

An update, Builder returned and finished most of the jobs I had left and got his final payment from my wife who was unable to check as she was looking after the kids.

He was due to return with the Shed window last week and phoned to say it had been delayed and then later that it had been cut incorrectly.

I phoned him this week and he apologised saying he'd forgotten and would turn up on Thursday.
Thursday comes and goes and I don't hear anything so left him an annoyed phone message expecting a call.

Chased again today and was told he'd phone me back - still waiting 3 hours later.

I still don't have any paper work and my shed (which is part of my boundary) isn't secure, so is unsuable.

He lives locally so am tempted to visit, just curious as to my rights with no paper trail.

    Very very annoyed :mad::mad::mad:

    He may genuinely have forgotten.

This has happened to us twice, where we have taken the finale payment, but then life and other work commitments have gotten in the way and we forgot.

We do go back and finish off putting in the last switch or the door handle which the client did not have at the time, and also give a little 'apology' gift.

We have never had anyone hold back final payment themselves, a few times we have suggessted (Yes this does happen) it ourselves if there is alot to go back for.

Even if you pay in cash you should always get a receipt, should have asked from the start that 'with each payment we want a receipt for our records.'

Just don't become defensive and demanding because if he is one of the dodgy ones then you will lose him and if he is genuine then you've just offended him.

He appeared to have genuinely forgotten when I spoke to him, but then to forget to turn up, phone and then not return 2 phone calls is more than a bad memory.

I don't care if he's offended, I want what I have paid for....

Unfortunately he's probably fully occupied with new projects which are far more lucrative than yours now. I would like to be able to give advice but my experience is nothing short of threatening them with legal action gets any response. And once you get to that stage its unlikely they will give 2 hoots about the quality of the work.

Do you only have the one number for him? no landline or another mobile number or even an email?

Try those first if he answers ask him to arrange a face to face time either at his place (this tells him that you know where to find him) or yours and then discuss the situation.

IF he does not respond to those methods then write a polite (very important) letter asking when he will be coming back to finish off the job, again if no response follow up with a not so polite (but not rude) letter and inform him that you will be taking legal advice over the matter.
