big praise for MSE

I can't believe it. I've almost paid off my debts thanks to MSE.

I've only ever had 1 debt, and that was a large Credit Card bill.

I know that I spent years before coming to MSE that I wash watching my money carefully etc, but after coming to this site, I've managed to push my money further.

I managed to knock a £2k credit card bill down to £150. All I have left to pay on the Credit card is £150.

Even though I've recently lost my only little job due to long term poor health (I was delivering papers each morning), forcing me to now pay less each month onto the card, but still, it shouldn't be too much longer before I finish paying off the card, and then no more debts for me.

I've gone through switching to the cheapest energy supplier, managing to find cheap insurance quotes that don't neglect on cover, switching various groceries to better value. I could go on.

So, I pass my thanks onto MSE and everyone in this forum that have helped me.

Still, I come into the forum or browse the site for the odd things. Gotta keep watching out for things.

Congratulations to you, sounds like it was a bit of a struggle but a great achievement.

Yep, it sure was a struggle, especially improving on stuff that I already knew how to save on.

It's just a shame that I can't get my parents and my older brother to save money.

My dad is old and refuses to try and leave his comfort zone of stuff that he pays for. He did manage to switch energy suppliers, but he won't change anything else.

My older bro and his girlfriend are shopaholics amongst other things. His girlfriend has the habit of buying clothes on a regular basis, and also likes to buy a new phone every few months. The phones aren't cheap either; about £200 each.

My older bro owns a 3-series Landrover. He claims that it's cheap to insure and to run on Diesel, but I've driven it. It drinks Diesel, is difficult to handle, and I doubt that it's cheap on insurance.

I keep offering to help them to manage their money because of their spending sprees, they end up falling behind on paying bills. I've had to bail them out several times before. They still owe me just over £300 from a few years ago.

However, they won't let me help them, because it would mean they'd have to stop being shopaholics.

My mum owes me money, but she's paying me back in the form of paying my monthly water bill. My younger bro pays me back end of each month now that he's got his own money straightened out.
