  • A good 'click - for - charity' site is "care2" with 12 different charity options. Again, it is an American site. Personally I 'click' the "Stop Global Warming" page frequently. Care2 have some quite good free e-cards too!

  • It is possible to raise funds for a UK MS charity at no extra cost while shopping online at over 1000 stores with 15 million products.

See the website of The Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre here: http://www.msrc.co.uk/index.cfm/fuseaction/show/pageid/3044 for details.
  • I have just clicked on some of the links in the 'Feed the Starving for Free' article. I was absolutely horrified to find that most were for American charities. Are there not enough UK charities that need our help?
Worse, some of the information on the Breast cancer charity site was dangerously wrong.

Please, please please, MSE, please drop these links.

why dosent someone answer this previuosly posted question:

"Where he mentions: "Technically The Hunger Site's sponsors don't pay when you click the 'feed the starving' button; it's more complex. They pay when you directly click through to them via the sponsor's page; at a rough rate of 20p per click."
Does this mean that actually me just clicking on the "feed the starving" button is of no use, unless I also click through to some of the sponsors?"

whats the point of this discussion until one knows, anyway i dont see any obvious links to click on

is this a scam or maybe a waste of time?, i wonder. the question i posted above cant be answered it seems. Martin seemingly has not researched this properly and as a result has given confusing information.
i would suggest that people stop wasting there time clicking on buttons unless they know that they are actually doing some good and not just making money for someone.. of coarse if its just the "feel good" factor that you want, carry on!
  • qaz - have you thought about contacting The Hunger Site yourself to find out the answer. They have an email address and it's just a matter of contacting them with your question.

To save you time, generally speaking advertisers will pay a very small amount of money each time their advert is displayed as a result of somebody clicking on a donate button. This amount of donation is greatly increased when somebody actually clicks on their advert and visits the advertisers website. In other words different amounts are paid for just looking at an advert, as opposed to clicking on an advert.

Is it worth doing? Well, you be judge of that. Have a read of this article which tabulates the evidence of impact for sites just like The Hunger Site and others. I think you'll be surprised. Now that you know how it works and after the reading the article you know what impact can be achieved from crowd-sourcing people together, check this website for other ways in which you can do good in bite-sized amounts of time.

janiebquick - why should you be horrified that most click to donate websites are American charities. People are people at the end of the day, no matter where they come from. How much research have you done to ensure that these American charities don't actually help other people outside of America?

Because Americans only help other Americans.
