Sending to a different address??

Hi with my recent problems with ebay I am a bit wary two of my recent buyers have asked me to post to a different address, one because they have moved. Is there an issue with this with paypal I seem to remember something in the past about only sending to confirmed addresses. What do I need to do to protect myself from claims?

Many thanks for your help.

The address doesnt need to be confirmed but it needs to be the paypal OK to send to address. Buyers can add an address but if they have already paid you will need to refund (as it wont appear for that transaction). Once they have added it they can pay and select that address and as long as Paypal say OK you will be covered.

I must admit for ow value item I (below about £10) I normally send without doing this. Never had any problems but thats a personal choice and risk.

I think most buyers worry too much about Paypal protection, as it only really matters if you send using special delivery (the only postal method that ensures you are covered).
In case of a chargeback though, you need proof of posting with the PayPal address on it.

It's a matter of balancing risk and time/expense required to make sure you are covered. The level of risk would probably depend on the type of items you sell, and also the cost involved. If someone sells lots of low value, low risk items I would say don't worry. If you are selling a small number of high risk or high value items I would be more careful.

Personally I don't bother about any protection, because it is more cost effective to take the risk, as it's very low (even the time taken to queue daily at the post office to get a signed PoP would be a huge waste of resources) but I would not want to say it's the same for all sellers.

However, as per the above responses for low cost items I'll send it wherever they want really.

Thanks all for the responses the items aren't really expensive but around the £40 mark, which I can't afford to loose. I have recently had a few bad experiences and really don't want to open myself up to claims.

Then you need to keep your certificate of posting for 180 days. That will mean you can claim back the amount, up to £46 if it is lost in the post.

Hi am I getting confused? What would happen if buyer opened item not received dispute and I had sent to the other address that they emailed me about? would I then have to refund (even though the item is at the other address??) if that makes sense.

I wouldn't be able to claim from the post office would I?

You don't claim from the Post Office, you claim from Royal Mail.

You need to read the postage thread that was posted earlier.

Either take Paypal protection or don't, but either way, with a CoP you have RM protection.

  • If you post to an address that isn't shown on Paypal and they open an INR you will be forced to refund.

If you are going to send the goods without any tracking it doesn't matter what address you send to as you aren't covered any way.

If a bank reversal happens Paypal do accept COP but this would need to be the address shown on Paypal (these are rare and most people pay up after being told what happened).

Most buyers are honest and just don't know how to change their address, but for £40 I would send RD and to the address on Paypal.

How many times do we all have to repeat the same information?
