Removals regulating body?

Looking for a removals company to move and put our stuff into storage for one month.

Is there a regulating body I should check for membership of before hiring someone? Just thought I should check they're trustworthy before they take all my stuff and disappear for month!

If you give an area, maybe someone here could recommend a removals company?

Do you need them to pack for you? Are you going far?

Twickenham, moving less than a mile, 3 bed - 3 bed, would like packing and we'll need a month's storage.

I used a BAR firm.

Despite confirming my packing and moving dates in writing and twice by phone, come 930am on the first date there was no sign of them. It was blatantly obvious from my phone call to them that they had completely failed to enter my job in the book.

They got one chap off leave and moved a second chap from another job but did get me packed by late afternoon. The packers asked me what time the removers were coming the following. As I didn't know, I rang the office yet again. They hadn't booked me in for a time so again I had to insist on that.

They were a complete shower, made all sorts of promises to get my business and then because of their incompetence they didn't deliver on many of them. And then had the cheek to insist I paid full whack.

Go on personal recommendation and not just a list.
