Bifold doors questions

Mainly addressed to those that have had them fitted (or fit them).
Just trying to weigh up the pro's and cons, yes they do look the business, but in this climate is there the opportunity to use them to their full extent that much?
They are a hell of a lot of money - compared to sliding doors - so are they worth it?
If the answer is a resounding yes, the next question would be UPVc, solid wood, composite or aluminium construction???
Final question, is it best that they are fitted by the supplier? (other windows being done at the same time)
If £1000's are to be spent they need to be right.

We have uPVC. They have been opened(!) but they provide all that extra light throughout the year and the company we used, they were barely more expensive than big sheet windows with french doors in the middle. Used our own fitter.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Just had aluminium ones installed but as the building works are still ongoing, I haven't had teh chance to try them out often.
Having said that, they look damn impressive, are smooth to open when I do use them and the light just floods in. One of my better design decisions, I reckon.
The supplier also supplied and fitted the rest of my new windows too.0 -
We've got them in the house we've just renovated. Had window taken out in living room, and made wider (had to have new lintel) but it's lovely looking out at the garden. And have one in the kitchen diner too. At this time of year we have them open as much as possible, but even in winter (house was a bit of a mess and no heating) we just wrapped up warm and sat by the open doors to watch the birds. Some of the best money we've spent! They're the aluminium ones rather than UPVC. Our builder fitted them for us.
Here's a photo of them from the outside.

If you have a good company fit them then you will be fine with any option its all a matter of taste and what matches your home, The company that did my ones fitted them right so they work perfectly but I have heard horror stories, I had them open most of may and all weekend right through til about 20 minutes ago when it hammered down. I fund that when entertaining and basically showing off the extra light they provide is a godsend as it opens up my dining room." When life keeps trying to let you down just remember you are not full of hot air so cannot be deflated"0
