how did the old one break? christmas is a long way away, you'll probably get a better machine for the price if you ask in 5 months time. a few pounds extra buys a proper laptop.

Acer laptops have mixed reviews for reliability. Spend £30 and get a 3 year warranty (including accidental damage). http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130533991522

    EDIT: a cheaper Acers @Ebuyer

not really sure she turned it on on Saturday morning the screen came on for a few seconds, then smoke came from the vent at the side. its really annoying as the machine is only 18 months old, its not been treated badly or run for hours on end. yes looking to get a proper laptop instead of a netbook, the reason im looking now is its her birthday in august, but cant make my mind up to get it for her birthday or wait till christmas.

take it back to the retailer for a free repair/replacement/partial refund under the sale of goods act, any electrical equipment should last longer than 18 months by law

Thanks closed have taken it back, they say it will take up to 28 days for repair, or if they think its been mistreated they will make us an offer. I just hope there going to be fair as its been well looked after.
