Card Fraud

I had fraudulent activity on my card and wanted to make people aware. The funny thing is I'm quite careful - I never leave my card unattended. One day I happen to log into online banking and find £1000 went off my account to Apple store.
I tried to trace my steps back as I have all the secure online banking measures in place. I then remembered when I last hired a car, they took an imprint of my card. They also ask for proof of address (utility bill). I then realised the perfect combo for stealing someones details and being able to get away with making an online transaction: my address, payment card numbers, CVV, etc.
On another ocassion when it first happened to me I was advised by my bank that the fraudulent activity happened at a petrol station. I then remembered that most petrol stations have CCTV that is managed onsite. And most of these cameras are overhead at the counter. It is possible for anyone to access the CCTV and check what you pressed into the keypad! So don't just think of those looking behind you - think of the cameras too!
Also, when paying at restaurants - don't let the waiter go away with your card! It's such a pity we have to think about all these things - one needs to almost think like a criminal to understand the tricks they get up to. Moral f the story, keep your eyes and ears peeled and treat your card like gold!
