new conservatory roof advice

we are currently deciding to change our very old lean to wall conservatory roof which is over 15years old (has hole and leaks). This currently has a very low pitch of about 5deg and hence does not allow any snow to slope off easily.

thinking of 2 options:
1. Lean to wall with greater pitch to meet bdg regs
2. P shaped type, which is "/\" shaped.

My question if is we go for a p shaped type i heard that box gutters need cleaning often, has anyone got any experience of this?
Also talking to the factory where the frames are made (eurocell) the supplier said most of the weight rests on the metal box gutter. Although this is attached to the wall, it just does not seem that strong to take such amount weight for the roof.

any advice welcome or feedback as we need to decide soon.

thanks

I would stick with lean to roof i always use a company from the internet they supply the complete system, the polycarbonate is 40mm thick, self supporting roof bars, wall plate and wall bar. I have fitted a few now and have had no problems with them, they are also very easy to fit and come at a good price.

or type in, low pitch 40 mm roof system.
    Hope this helps.

any reason why you do not prefer P (/\) shaped type designs? Which is better for long lasting and less maintenance problems?

The fitter only spec'd for 25mm polycarbonate and supplier only said 32mm was next option. Does it make it a difference in terms of thickness selected?

I like this lean to roof system as it's thermo rating is that of a tiled roof and if you have the opaque polycarbonate it stays cool in the summer. The trouble with box gutter roofs is with the downpours we
get now they can leak into the conservatory and need cleaning out
    regularly .Sorry site is fascias.com

personally speaking and please dont take offence anyone - but think a p shape looks much much better than a "lean to" - we have a large conservatory across the back - not a p shaped but a long oblong - its about 2o ft by about 12 ft - we use it all year around and its been brilliant - it has an apex roof and we ar ein a bungalow so not sure what you call it - its double something I seem to remember - is it double hip - I dont know but its not cut into the bungalow roof if that makes sense - and we have box guttering and as long as you empty it once in a while it is fine - probably twice a summer? good luck with what you decide x

I too think the apex roof looks much better, but you do need to keep the box gutter clear. Mine is 7 metres long and its quite a job. Cleaning the house side of the roof is also difficult on a long conservatory - the middle bit isn't reachable from either end.

    Thanks for reply.
How do you keep the box gutter clear? Our design is of similar length and our concern is that we can only really access the roof from one side and how will someone (me!) get across to clean the box gutter?

The builder makes it sound easy bu suggesting insert a hose from one side, but i dont perceive it will be that easy, unless i am missing something?
