Cat gave me a fright tonight

One of my two cats gave me a big fright tonight when it started frothing at the mouth!was just going to phone the emergency vet when i thought i would check google. It set my mind at rest to learn this is quite common if cats eat something that does not agree with them.It can of course also be a sign of them eating poison but as mine is a house cat i did not think that probable.Any after a couple of minutes of frantis lip licking the cat calmed down and seams fine eaten her supper as normal ect.Cats! who would have them

  • No veterinary advice coming your way, but

One of mine looked as though she had just come down with a severe case of Rabies.

Further investigation revealed that she had decided to have a taste of the minty toothpaste DD had left over the bathroom sink....

My older cat did that last year. I was going to go out and she was on the wall frothing/dribbling everywhere. The neighbour had to go fetch her (lol) and I kept her inside for the rest of the day.

In the garden next door, it is quite overgrown so I could only presume that she must have eaten a berry or something that disagreed with her! She's fine now, no frothy mouth ever since lol.

My cat is fine today and i found out what happened, can't believe it really. An hour or so after my son said "oh my god" lol there was a frog hopping about in the hallway:eek:as we live in a first floor flat i have no idea how it got in.On examination it had a wound on its back so its obvious the cat had hold of it.Anyway we live quite near the river so my son realeased it nearby. As my cats are house cats i have no idea how the frog got in??

It's quite likely this was related to the heat, if you were in as hot a part of the country as I was yesterday (31 degrees in London) I have seen my cat do this once, and it was when she was badly over-heated. She was fine afterwards. Very scary though!

One of my cats had to have eye drops last year and he foamed at the mouth like crazy - the vet said it was because of the bitter taste from the drops. It never lasted too long, but I know what you mean about it scary. The first time he had them the vet put the drops in at her office and I nearly peed myself thinking he was about to go all incredible hulk on us :o

Ah ha! Herons eat frogs/toads and can drop them in stupid places. Frogs/toads have a self defence mechanism which involves tasting vile and weeing in the [STRIKE]hand of the child[/STRIKE] mouth of the predator that has caught them.

I think we have established motive, means and lack of an alibi.

T'was the croaking thing wot dunnit!
