Reference check jitters

We have been looking for a flat to move as our current contract is running out, found a lovely flat that we adore and put the holding deposit down. Now we're in the credit and reference check stage. It's two couples sharing a 2bed flat and the estate agents called today to ask for 2 people to put forward for the check. The rent is £1080 a month, so £270 each. What i'm worried about is that none of us are in full time employment (all 4 working part time) and was wondering if that would have a negative effect on our reference check? Credit history is pretty much spotless, have good references from previous landlord, but work part time (but can easily afford the rent). Do you think we're running a risk here? Landlord seems to be happy with us, they have asked what we do and a bit more info about us. The estate agent is charging us £50 each for the check (£200 all together), but asking for only 2 names. Need to call them back tomorrow. Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi Ally, this is what it says on the website of my letting agents:As a guide, your annual income (before tax) must be at least 2.5 times the annual rent of the property you are applying for.
For example:
Rent £600 / month
Per year £7,200 (£600 x 12 months)
Minimum annual salary £18,000 per (£7,200 x 2.5)
But if they are only checking two of you it means only two people's wages are being taken into account and also I'm not sure why they are charging four referencing fees so I would check this.0 -
thanks 611, that seems reasonable and we do earn more than 2.5 times the rent, so that's a relief.0
