Halifax - Electron nonsense

The Halifax have treated me like a lepher for several years whilst I have been struggling. They took away my current account and replaced with an Electron account which means I have no cheque book. I have just had a card that has only worked if I have been in credit for the last 4 years. I am in dispute with AOL over broadband services that I feel they let me down on and so I have moved to Sky. Aol wanted to take 18 months money which was just short of £200 for a contract only initiated 4 weeks earlier that didn't offer adequate signal. I deliberately kept no money in the account so they couldnt take it while the dispute was sorted.
Halifax paid this money from a debit card despite there only being £40 in the account. They claim that it is not their responsibility to check my account when paying from the card. They seemed to have checked on every other occasion in the last 4 years. I even think they may have previously refused this AOL payment as I have a letter from AOL demanding the money which in theory they should have able to take at will if Halifax were telling the truth.
I have never been able to get this account to overdraw for my own purposes. I am baffled that AOL can take me overdrawn when I couldn't go overdrawn even if I got down on my knees and begged.
I wonder why Banks are puzzled that everybody thinks they are not to be trusted and why they are allowed to give their opinion on the trustworthiness of their customers when they are the slipperiest of customers themselves.

Not sure if Visa Chargeback can be initiated on Electron. But you could ask.
