EON Energy Plan discounts

When I arranged an electricity supply with EON they sent me an information leaflet which only said there was a 3% prompt payment discount.
Browsing the website one year later I found EnergyPlan also carries a £20 "no mains gas discount", which I have not had.
They said they would only implement the discount from today, i.e. not backdated, because I hadn't told them I didn't have a gas supply.
This seems remarkably unreasonable, in that first of all you have to find out yourself about the secret discount, and then you have to magically know that you have to apply for it.
Am I missing something here?

When I arranged an electricity supply ...

As you appear to have arranged this without advice, then I fear you have no chance other than to ask nicely for a goodwill gesture ... but you appear to have tried that failed.

    Better luck next time :)

    Hi Marylynn

Sounds as though you haven't been advised correctly here. If I might explain.

The No Mains Gas Discount was introduced in December 2008 and is given to residential electricity customers who have no access to mains gas.

However, it only applies to customers in areas where we are the host electricity supplier. This is in the old Eastern, East Midlands and Electricity North West (NORWEB) regions.

Eligible customers are identified using industry data so this should have been picked up when you joined us.

I have known cases, though, where the national databases hold incorrect property details and this can have a knock-on effect in identifying customers with no access to mains gas.

In these cases, customer accounts can be updated by agents and any missing discount backdated where applicable.

As long as you tick the above boxes, you should have the relevant discount and I would talk to us again about this. Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you prefer, I'll be happy to take a look for you.
