Anyone heard of Ascot Water heaters?

Hi All,
Got a problem with my boiler/water heater, which sits under the sink. Basically the pilot light is not staying on, so we got no heating/hot water.

From reading previous threads, been through the process of lighting the pilot light using a manual push switch etc. However as soon as i let go (after holding it about 3-4 mins) its switches off again.

I presume its the thermocouple which is faulty, however the water heater i have is called ascot and i think its very old. Can anyone suggest a place where i can get a replacement thermocouple for this, or even recommend a good plumber who wont rip me off to change it (in the east london/essex area)

Thanks in advance

Haven't heard of one of them since i was a boy and that was some time ago. This is old, very old so obtaining spares may be a problem.

try here and the best of luck !

    Hi,
Yes it sound like the thermocouple. Not 100% sure but a universal one may fit , these cost about a fiver. try https://www.bes.co.uk or do a search on google for a place called HRPC ( heating replacement parts and controls) HRPC will know what TC to use.

Hello, I have had quite a lot of experience with an old Ascot at work. The most common fault I have found is that the pipe carrying the gas to the pilot light gets blocked up and makes the light so small and weak that it (a) stops it warming the bimetal strip enough to keep it open and (b) itkeeps going out. The pipe can be removed quite easily and it can be poked out with a bit of wire.
Please be gentle and a little kind, as I've only got a simple mind.
