Sunflower sadness
and another one from me while I remember...
I had a very healthy 'giant single' sunflower happily growing away in a (large) pot in my south-facing garden. It had reached a height of around 15cm a week ago, and I was looking forward to watching it grow.
However, I went out this weekend to check on its progress and was rather dismayed to see that the stem had been snapped clean off
there is a fox population in the area, and I'm guessing it just got knocked.
I really wanted sunflowers this year and am gutted (none of the others I planted had sprouted, so this one was my only hope!) Is there any chance of getting a later crop now if I sow more seeds at this stage, even though I'm well over a month late?
thanks all

I think there's a decent chance, particularly if you choose one of the smaller multiple head varieties instead of a giant - and cosset it, feed it, water it etc.0 -
Well I thought I'd try with the remaining 'giant' seeds I've already bought, given that it's technically too late to plant and I don't want to waste more £ on more seeds, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm not sure if the planting 'deadline' is intended to stop them getting cold late in the season or too hot at the start, but summers seem to last long into autumn these days, so maybe that will help...0 -
I started growing sunflower seeds last Monday (they were a gift) I have them in a pot on my windowsill and they are up to 2 inches with small leaves on them already.
I haven't ever grown them before, so I hope that this great start doesn't end up being a disappointment!bertie200
