Bit of a strange Aerial problem if anyone can help?

Options
Ok i had a new tv arrive today with built in freeview. I disconnected the old tv put this one in its place tuned it all in and it found all the channels we get round here but when its comes to watching them it is loosing signal all the time. I thought this was strange as the old tv has built in freeview and works perfectly fine off the aerial we have running from the loft i also bought in my sons tv with its seperate freeview box and that works fine on the loft aerial as well but this new tv is having non of it. I then decided to pop in the portable aerial we have just on the off chance and low and behold it works.

Anyone got any ideas i dont want to use the portable aerial as the stand is broke and its a pita and untidy.

TIA :-)

Forgot to mention the loft aerial also services the main lounge tv and that works perfectly too :-)

Cheapest option is use a signal booster.
May also want to check all the wiring in the aerial (Connections and just make sure its not been 'nipped' anywhere)

Is it a cable just straight from the aerial, or does it go to a distribution point in the attic from whence it goes to the points?

Have you tried plugging it into the lounge socket?

Jayne the aerial is in the loft and there are two leads that come off a splitter down to sockets in the bedroom and living room bot these points and leads work on all the other tv's in the house it just seems to be this one that wont hold a signal other than bbc1 for more than a few seconds.

I have tried the new tv in the loung and the same thing happens i take the aerial out of the living room tv which is showing a perfect picture on all channels plug it into this little tv and its scramble city. It is obviously picking up the signal but cant seem to keep hold of it :-(

Have you tried doing a full channel rescan on the TV? Are you on a fringe reception area?
Then I'd take the TV to a friend/neighbour and try it there to establish where the fault lies.
Most digital TV's require a rooftop aerial to get a decent signal, a loft aerial may not give sufficient signal strength.

This is what i am saying though, the aerial works perfectly for all the other tv's in the house (all digital, 2 with built in freeview, 1 with built in freeview HD and another with a Freeview box attached) its just this one tv there is nothing wrong with the aerial and everytime i hook it up to the aerial i rescan just incase it helps but its getting worse not better. The big tv in the living room is built in freeview HD as well so if it picks that up i cant see why this piddling little annoying TV wont lock on to the signal.

So you say that your old tv with freeview works?

Next question, have you tried plugging in the 'new' tv into different tv sockets? Does it work?

I suspect your tv is faulty from what you stated but I could be wrong.

Google the make and model of TV, might be a common fault.

Are you using a powered splitter box (distribution amp) in the loft or a simple coaxial "T" splitter?

Have you tried repositioning the aerial?

It sounds like you're in a good digital reception area if a set-top aerial works better than the loft aerial. So I would guess that your TV tuner is having trouble possibly because the signals are too strong and overloading the receiver or the tuner is picking up adjacent channel interference.

If you can't reposition the aerial you could try an attenuator like this to reduce the signal strength a bit and see if that helps.

We have the same sort of problem - we actualy got a cheap freeview box from a Lidl chuck-out sale. Unfortunately it is simply the case that some freeview boxes/tvs are better than others. We are going to try a booster for ours, it might be worth trying one for yours, just to up the aerial output a bit.
