Possible missing online payment transfer

Options
Good afternoon all,

My OH transferred two payments today from her Nationwide current account, one to my Natwest current account and one to our joint Natwest current account.

The one to me came through instantly but the one to the joint account still has not come through.

We have rang Nationwide who are doing a "trace" on the payment but say it has definitely left her account and gone to the account we requested it to go to (details are definitely correct) but Natwest (both online banking and telephone) say it has not reached the account. All accounts are set up for faster payments.

What do we do from now? I suppose it may update over night, but if not then we will have to go overdrawn and make the payment again to ensure we have enough cash in the joint account for all the bills to come out of.

Will be a bit harsh if we got charged interest from either account due to something beyond our control.

Anyone else experience something like this?

How much was it for - it could have gone by BACS so might hit the account on Wednesday.
  • Hi

The amount is £380.00 and is still not showing in our account.

Why would it have gone through as a BACS when both banks operate FasterPayments?

The concern, as well as where is the money, is that tomorrow the DD's are due to come out so we will need to go overdrawn in her account to pay the £380.00 again so the DD's dont bounce, which means she will be charged interest on this through no fault of our own.

    Thanks

Either organisation might have been having problems with the faster payments scheme. You might have hit the upper figure that Nationwide set for faster payments. It's best to never leave it til the last minute to make arrangements as faster payments are never guaranteed.

Have Nationwide confirmed that it even went by the faster payments scheme? Some organisations have unfathomable rules about what transactions can be sent and when.

What is the limit for FP with Nationwide?
Did it confirm that it went by FP when sent?

Nationwide is still a miserly £1000 daily limit http://www.nationwide.co.uk/faster_payments/default.htm

If the OP's first, successful, payment was for more than £620 then the second payment of £380 will definitely not have gone by FP. And as pmduk says, there are other reasons why FP might not work for any given payment anyway, although it should indeed tell you if it hasn't worked (I'm not sure if it then gives you the option to send it by BACS or if it just does it anyway, so far, touch wood, all of my Nationwide FPs have worked OK).
  • What does it say in Payments Status? (somewhere on online banking)
