New Kitchen - how to prep sink area before worktop template made (by supplier)

Options
I'm installing kitchen units and appliances but a supplier is templating and fitting a worktop.

Sink will be one of those that sits under the worktop so hole needs making for this area. Same location as current sink.

Question is whether I need new sink fitted before template or whether I can simply show new sink and location. What is the standard way of doing things?

Many thanks if you can help

Mark

The templaste man will be used to this sort of thing. Why don't you ring him and as what he needs.

But in terms of templating worktops, you are an amateur. And I don't mean that in a nasty way -its not your profession, so how would you expect to know these things?

We just visited a granite worktop supplier and I asked the same question. They said that the undermounted sink must be in situ, exactly in position (propped up somehow) prior to templating. I suppose it makes sense - the cut out will be where you put the sink!

When the worktop is fitted, silicone is applied to the sink and the worktop placed on top.

Sink is positioned upside down on the template and template marked accordingly. Margin then taken for the overlap and if you are having granite or Corian you can then decide on a pattern for the drainage grooves. Therefore I suggest you obtain the new sink prior to the template and thoroughly inspect it before handing to your worktop manufacturer/template maker. Do not forget you may also need a hole(s) for your tap.

Kitchen units and appliances arrived today but no sink or taps.

I called up and was told that these will arrive with templater, old sink and taps must be removed prior to template being done.

So I need to remove sink and taps prior to template and if I want them between then and when worktop is installed then put them back on after the template is done.

Worktop installers fix sink to worktop but don't plumb them in.

Bit of a pain. I have everything ready for plumber to remove sink and show me how to remove taps and install again after template taken (or whatever he suggests)
