Change Credit Card Company

in Credit cards
Hello,
I am having a very annoying problem.
6 Months ago i decided to get a Egg card for the 6 months interest free on balance transfers and buying etc.
In the last month i thought it would be a good idea to apply for a different credit card with another company to transfer the balance of the Egg card too. Again to take advantage of the interest free period. Barclay card looked a good offer, offering nearly a year. It took Barclays nearly a month to reply to my request, and then sent my card which i thought great. Till i looked at my credit limit which was £400. Nowhere near enough to transfer my Egg card balance to.
I rang Barclays up and asked what was going on. They replied: because i already have an Egg card plus an American express they can only offer me a £400 limit. The limits on the Egg and Amex are nearly 50% of my annual wage so they are not able to give me any more credit.
I told them where to stick the card.
What my question is: How can i change credit card companies?
People are always saying take advantage of interest free periods and change your credit card company.
I can’t do this if they won’t give me the credit limit to start with.
Please please help.

It seems to be only Barclaycard who are giving out ridiculous limits. Forget barclaycard, they consider themselved 'responsible lenders' who lend only piddling amounts. What they mean is 'We don't want you to balance tranfer a large sum and take advantage of the 0% offer we publicise as being fantastic' Basically, forget them!
MBNA give the best credit limits and the fact that you have 2 other credit cards will go in your favour.
Let me know how you get on!
I have a Platinum MBNA card, have had it for years and they offer superb service, never had any problems with them.
Good Luck xx

& I've just had a knock-back from Capital Bank/Circle 1!!
Trying to ditch the Goldfirsh, 'cos the points scheme has altered, thought I'd go for the 15 cashback from Circle.
Looks like they've stopped it now, as mentioned by others, in various posts, plus it's not on their site, either.
Guess this is there way of not honouring the offer.Their phone system is a joke, too! round the world operators & numbers that just bring you back to where you started!
Not that they put a contact number, on the rejection letter-you need to do that in writing!!
&, no, I don't have any adverse history etc - prbably TOO financially stable, for them!!
BUT, guess which bank I use to finace our customers borowing for their vehicles???????????
CAPITAL BANK!!!!
Maybee not much longer!!

To Barclaycard (for 'variable' credit limits) add Capital One.... Other posters say they are fine to deal with, but they have started to introduce silly things- like £200 credit limits (assuming it's not '25K' like on the leaflet) and 'fees' for credit limit increases. This kind of customer 'differentiation' is what seems to be getting Barclaycard into some difficulties so, if easy to get cards are what you want may I also suggest
Marbles [HSBC]
Goldfish [Lloyds TSB]
Smile [Coop Bank]
Note that both Marbles and Goldfish consider applications for incomes of just £5500, and give decent limits which they also raise periodically. You can't use the cards for purchases while in their promotional periods however [it's important to be aware of such differences] Also Smile doesn't always offer 0% on opening but did when I got mine, and have made 'repeat' offers [like Egg] for existing customers. They too raise your limit periodically. Worth mentioning too that Co-op, the Smile parent, does offer 0% on its 'Travel card' on BTs & purchases and will 'match' limit if approved.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -
in barclaycard's defence, i applied and was given £9400 creidt limit.
i did an initial balance transfer of £4000 to it, made a payment of £95, then another balance transfer of £1095.
I have2 other ccards - Mint and MBNA (£9000)
any other cards i have i have closed.
I recently applied for a loan, only to be offered a !!!!!! interest rate, so took a loan out else where.
when i checked my experian file, both loan searches showed up.
why others have been given stupidly low credit limits is beyond me.
there must be a logical reason:
too many searches on credit files
too many current open ccards with balancessmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

vansboy, just a note of caution before you vent your rage on Capital Bank; they are a Bank of Scotland (HBoS) company, nothing at all to do with CapitalOne who do the Circle cards.
I believe the Circle range of cards have been dropped from CapitalOne's current offerings.0 -
hi i am with jjb mastercard and was woundering if you can claim back the charges when you have missed a payment
i know it sounds silly but can someone give me advise please0 -
You would be bestter starting your own thread to get more of a response, but basically a relatively rfecent judgement by FSA (I think?) specified that they thought a £12 fee was reasonable, so if you were charged more than this you shouldn't have a problem, if charged less probably unlikely!0
