Can I get a refund?

Last Friday I made an appointment to see a private dentist for the first time. The receptionist said that the initial fee for first examination plus x-rays etc was £95 and would I pay a deposit. I paid a £50 deposit by debit card over the phone.
The appointment is not until July 19th and I need a filling doing! Just on the off chance, I phoned another dentist and he see me this week and is half the price!
I am now regretting paying the deposit and I need to cancel the July 19th appointment. Can I get a refund on the deposit???
I am thinking that this may fall under the 7-day cooling off period with the Distant Selling Regulations which will help me......but does it??

I don't think DSR will apply as dentistry is classed as a service.0 -
Distance selling regulations cover goods and services.
But is this classed as a distance sale? I think I read somewhere that if you go into a shop and see an item then later confirm the order over the phone it isn't covered as a distance sale.0 -
However I found all their contact details from a website and a telephone call is all the contact I have had with them.0
-
Have you called them and asked about their cancellation policy? This will put you in a more informed position; you may even find that they will refund your despoit if you are giving sufficient notice.0
-
Can't think of any reason this wouldn't apply then....... unless the filling is custom made or something.
Telephone them and see what they say I guess.0 -
Phew.....thanks for all the advice. I have just phoned them and due to the fact my appointment was ages away, they refunded me almost without question! It's always to go into these situations with a little knowledge, so thanks everyone. :T
Successful outcome! :j0
