Vendor has changed the property post acceptance?

The plot thickens!
The mortgage lender's survey that was booked for tomorrow morning has been postponed yet again, this time until Friday. The estate agent says that this was at the request of the vendor, as the work on the leak and flooring has not yet been completed.
He reiterated that the vendor just wanted to make sure that the property was perfect before the valuation took place. He stressed that the vendor passed on his sincerest apologies to us and that he had not accepted any other offers and we were his only buyers. However, the property is on the market with 2 estate agents who are still conducting viewings! (Although in the state it is in currently, I doubt anybody would be interested).
Doozergirl - My mortgage broker confirmed that we can upgrade the mortgage lender's basic valuation to a Homebuyer Report for an extra £225 (much cheaper than the £360-460 we've been quoted elsewhere). However, I am tempted to opt for the full building survey as we have been quoted £590 from an independent surveyor (unfortunately the mortgage lender will not upgrade to a building survey).0
