Hello,
I just need to put the feelers out there for a quote I received Yesterday. I need my chimney lined before I install a woodburner and I have received a quote for £1200 to supply the register plate, the 316 grade Stainless steel lining, the fixing for the top on the chimney (cowl or something?) the backfill insulation and the labour to do all this. Now this seems mighty expensive to me as I was hoping for aroun £700-800 - but then maybe this takes longer than i have imagined it would?? Please let me know all your thoughts...
Oh yeah its a little terraced cottage, chimney no more than about 6m high, straight up, if anyone needs to know anymore details, let me know
thanks in advance!!

Hi Betty
I had a new s/s chimney lining put in about two months ago,I can't tell you what grade but i should think they are all the same with the health and safety laws.I live in a bungalow so it will be a touch shorter than yours but i have a largre loft.Anyway it cost me £650 plus vat which included cowl on top so your 700-800 is about what i paid but my fire was one of the built in type not a woodburner.
Hope this helps

Hello
That does sound expensive, ive just done a job similiar to this, instaled 5 inch s/steel flu liner up a small terraced house fit a mushroom/cowl to the top and 'capped off' chimney and insulated it.
It is difficult without looking as every job is different, but 1200 seems well over the top, does that include VAT?
its a couple of days work max for two men plus materials. I charged 680 for customer.0 -
Heelo, thanks for all your replies, I'm very chuffed that I didnt have to wait too long for them either :-D
I had assumed it included VAT yes, I hope so at that price!!!
He did go on about the Chinese buying up all the stainless steel at the moment and the price of it in the UK has just shot up... hence the high quote - I wonder if thats a tag line he uses on everyone lol?!!
Back to looking for more quotes then around the £700 mark me thinks!
Thanks again by the way!0 -
Well I found some guys to do it for £850 all in, and the TV aerial went up while they were up there too - though not in time for the Christmas programes!!!
Thanks again
