It might be best to trawl your questions through google and then you can choose the level of skill/expertise that you are comfy with.
A friend told me only yesterday that it's nearly all to do with where your feet are on the ground !!!0 -
Try your local Uni / College they usually run short courses for photography.
The one I did at Pasley Uni last year was good! Their was 20 of us in the course and lasted 12 weeks
I learned a lot and had a great time! great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Depending on your situation/location you may get funding. I used my ILA Scotland (Individual learning account) for the course.Laters

...Or join a local camera club.
Most camera clubs welcome newbies and you will learn a lot.

Concentrate on the 'photography' bit of it; the digital part is the simplest bit
There are loads of books .. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Basic-Photography-Michael-Langford/dp/02405159270 -
Apart from CambridgeInColour (already mentioned), I've always liked digital-photography-school.com0

I love this site, Constantly updated and the authors are great to talk with too.

It is part art, part science. You compose a shot artistically, but then you need to understand how your camera works (and how physics/light/lenses/mirrors/sensors/exposure/aperture/etc works) to get the best results from the camera for that composition.0
