Hi there everyone
Would like a bit of help here
I would like to move out of my parents house, want some interdependence, plus of course it needs to happen in a few years anyway (im 22) so prefere to do it now if possable
I get just under £1000, got £998 this month
Out goings in have the following
- £100 - Rent to parents
- £25 - Phone Contract (Will downgrade to £25, not using all my allowances, never have, have a £35 contract at the momment)
- £25 - Credit Card (think this should be less than £400, plan to pay this off)
- £272 - Car Payments (So one has to stay sadly!
)
- £200 - Car Insurance (Plan to pay this off)
- £38 - Gym Membership (Can't stop this, 18 month contract, only about 3 months in)
So ones I have left if the ones I said are payed off, plus of course not having to pay rent to the parents
- £25 - Phone Contract (Will downgrade to £25, not using all my allowances, never have, have a £35 contract at the momment)
- £272 - Car Payments (So one has to stay sadly!
)
- £38 - Gym Membership (Can't stop this, 18 month contract, only about 3 months in)
Total = £345
Which means only 655 left!
Not much at all!
Is there any sort of benefits I can get to help me with this?
Or is it a case of a second job?
Problery will cost me all the money left for the rent, so no food, or maybe gas, electric or water if not included in the rent.
Looking impossable to move out, which I really want to
:(
I don't want to houseshare before anyone asks, I know that would help, but just don't want to
Any help would be great!
Thanks!

What we want and what we can afford are often very different things. With your take-home pay I would say that it's unlikely in the extreme that you'd get any benefit toward your rent. It's the car which is bleeding you dry: it's costing you nearly HALF of your take-home pay a month. That's madness in my opinion.. Do something about that first. Car-ownership and living independently are incompatible with your income at present.0

I agree completely - just the car payments and insurance are costing you nearly half your take-hom pay, before thinking about MOT / servicing / petrol.
It appears that you have a car much too expensive for your income....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
My advice would be to STAY where you are.
I'm actually moving in the opposite direction. I didn't move out from home until I was 26, now I'm 28 and I'm moving back in! My brother is 30 and he STILL hasn't moved out.
Living on your own having and having "independence" sounds cool, but I can tell you that having no money to do anything is no fun at all, struggling to meet bills and feed yourself is a big strain.
In your situation, at your age I would stay where you are. £100 a month rent? That's peanuts... I'm paying £650 for my flat + all the other stuff. I'll be paying my parents £260 house keeping when I return.
Clear your debts, and live within your means. Save for a deposit on mortgage and buy a place of your own. This is far easier to do if you're living with your parents:www: Progress Report :www:
Offer accepted: £107'000
Deposit: £23'000
Mortgage approved for: £84'000
Exchanged: 2/3/16
:T ... complete on 9/3/16 ... :T0 -
Phone the gym and tell them that you can't afford to pay their fees any more. You're having to leave your parents house and you just have no spare income. The chances are they will let you away with it if you plead... but they could also say 'tough'. You don't know if you don't try though.
Your phone contract is too high in my opinion. I pay £15 a month for internet, free texts and minutes. It's more than enough to get by. Try and cancel your contract as soon as you can and DON'T take out another mobile contract for as long as you live! Who cares if you get the best phone going - by the time you've paid off your contract, you could have bought three sim free ones. It's money down the drain.
I also agree that your car payments are drowning you. To be honest, the bottom line is that you can't afford to move out unless you get a new job, or get rid of your car. You really have to be realistic about this. I was in your shoes a few years ago and I almost cried when I sold my car but it was the only option. Once I'd settled into my own little flat, I realised that it was TOTALLY worth it. Unless you need your car to actually perform your job (and not to get to your job because you could move closer to it) then get rid of it.
Having your own flat is a lot cooler than having a car!0 -
You say you "plan to pay off" your car insurance.
Which I assume is for the remainder of this 12 month period.
But you will always need car insurance if you have a car, so you will need to add that back in really as at renewal it will be a monthly cost again.
Also assuming you keep the car you haven't factored in monthly running costs, fuel, servicing, MOT (if it needs them yet), new tyres, repair costs etc. Not all of these are "monthly" things but I'd still work out approx annual costs and then divvy by 12 because if you have a car they will not be avoidable.
I can't see how you could afford a rent on your own to be honest. I'd say either you get a better job, stay where you are until you do, or houseshare I can't see any other options!0 -
