Cat trying to move into my house - advice needed!

Hi, he is super cute!
I agree with going round just to check they aren't missing him and he hasn't got lost, or moved away and left him behindThough unlikely I guess if he has an address on his collar!
I think my cats spend the majority of their time elsewhere but they do come home to eat, I wouldnt want someone feeding my cats but have no problem if they are visiting other people for affection!!
Good luck and hopefully he is just a super friendly cat0 -
Go round to the other house and ask about the cat, or leave a note if they are out.
If you don't want this cat around, then stop talking /stoking /letting it come in to your house, when it enters in just bang something loudly to scare it off, it will get the message.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

You need to find out where the cat is from, he doesn't look like homeless to me - his white bits look white, he has a collar and does not look skinny. Please don't feed the cat until you are confident it is a stray, there are a raft of health conditions that mean a cat needs a special diet. BTW your OH is unlikely to be allergic to cat hair, more likely the cat's saliva or dander (skin flakes).Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I'd whip round to the address and see what I could find ... it may be he belonged to someone who has passed away and whose kids don't think they should be as responsible for the cat as they are for collecting the will money ... (have known it happen) ... just because he has a name and address tag, it means nothing.
Or, his owner might have had a baby and he may have had his nose pushed out so he is looking for somewhere where he can get a bit of peace and quiet (in which case, the hubby might ask if he can come for an hour every so often too ha ha ha ha!) ...
I wouldn't feed him though (just yet!) ... till you know 100% per cent what is what ... if you get an answer at the address then I would just explain that he has been visiting your garden and although you haven't fed him, he keeps coming back and wanting to come in. They might say that he just wants to be friends with everyone and as long as you don't tice him in with food, they're happy for him to keep visiting with you ... they may not believe you haven't fed him and may accuse you of trying to steal him (in which case you say you would HARDLY come to find out where he lives if you were!) ... just be ready for anything ... !!
But, on the other hand, he may belong to someone who is in pieces ... he may be an indoor cat who has been let out accidentally or got out of an open window in this warm weather, so just be ready for that ... if that's the case and his owner takes him back, then he may not be coming visiting again if they are ultra careful about him getting out again.
He looks a smashing chap though! I wouldn't do anything to scare him away though ... simply because if he gets hurt (perish the thought) he might come to you to help him. That's happened just recently to me ... a cat I just used to say hello to (and have never so much as tried to stroke) decided to limp up to my front door when he hurt his leg. They know who to come to when in need, and NOT just for feeding.
P.S. If OH's allergy is a problem, ask kitty's owners if you can do a swap ... move kitty in and ... oh, sorry ... just joking, honest ... !!!0 -
I agree with the majority of posters here - your first action must be to contact the owners using the address on the tag - they may be going frantic not knowing where there cat is.
At my old house I had a visiting cat (Demon Cat started bringing him home when Visitor Cat was a youngster). I did try to deter him to start with but apparently I wasn't as scary to a determined kitty as people feel I am! Anyway, as soon as he started wearing a collar with tag, I contacted his owners (in my case they were only down the street) and let them know that he was a frequent visitor and had adopted the spare bed as his despite my best intentions. They were delighted and relieved to find out where he was going and didn't mind him visiting (as long as I didn't) and they would even come and knock on the door to collect him if they needed him at home for any reason - e.g. before a trip to vets / grandkids visiting etc.0 -
Mystery solved!
... after a bit of a wild goose chase / adventure!
I went to the address on the tag after work today (about 1.5 miles away from my home) - let's say it was 20 CatOwner Road. Anyway, the lady who answered the door didn't own a cat but said that the people who used to live there did. She told me they had moved house a year ago ... but luckily they were still living on the same road at either number 45 or 49 (she wasn't sure).
So off I went to 45 CatOwner Road, with a bundle of post in my hand that were for the cat's owners that had been sent to their old house! (I promised the lady at number 20 that I'd take it with me!) A chap answered the door at number 45, but he didn't own the cat either.
So I then went to number 49, and the cat's owner answered :j. They explained that they had gone away for 3 nights over the weekend and thought that the cat had gotten a bit confused and lonely and went looking for hugs - it seems she does this sometimes when they go on holiday but settles back to normal after a week or so. I found out that it is actually a girl cat (so much for my boasting that I could tell a cat's gender by Googling it!) and her name is Whiskas. I shall miss calling her Sockcat.
The cat's family seemed really nice and friendly, and said they had seen her yesterday eating her dinner so that put my mind at rest. They apologised for her waking me up at 5am, lol. Apparently they used to live next door but one to where I live now, so that explains why she still comes here.
So a happy outcome, and I can now hug my new little cat friend without having to worry about her!! :j:www: Saving for a deposit - Target £30k by 24/03/14 (30th Birthday!) :www:

That is one clever Whiskas making humans go across town, deliver mail and knock on three strangers' doors!
I'm so glad you found out where she's from and what her story is. Maybe you could put a peg on your OH's nose and let the little madam in?0 -
So impressed Whiskas can remember her current house AND the last but one that she lived in, presumably well over a year ago.
Just shows you that it is worth identifying your cat (collar/ chip) as there may be someone who cares enough to ensure you are reunited.
