stupid question but whats the difference...

between a standing order and direct debit?:confused:
i have to set up a transfer between my current account and my daughters halifax savings account and am not sure if i should do a standing order or direct debit. please forgive my post pregnancy stupidity my brain has turned to grey mush!!

    The standing order is where your bank account pays out to another account.

    A direct debit is where the other party requests money from your acount.
