working hours

Hi,
In the emloyment contract working hours are stated as:
35 hours per week from 8am to 5pm (Mon-Fri) with 1 hour lunch break.
But 8am to 5pm (Mon-Fri) with 1 hour lunch break makes 40 hours per week.
So which one is correct 35 hours or 8am to 5pm?
Do you think there is a mistake in the contract?
Thanks in advance.

Unless you have a morning and afternoon break also, or finish early on a Friday, then I think they have made a mistake.0

They're not looking at paying you for your lunch break, which results in 35 hours paid.0

I think you need to recheck your numbers!

Sorry but neither of these questions can be answered by anyone on a forum such as this. Your best bet would be to contact the employer who issued the contract and ask them. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
Check with them,
The only thing I can think of which would fit with both 35 hours and those hours is that you have to do 35 hours a week, between those hours (so you can start at 8 and finish at 4 or start 9 and work till 5 etc)0 -

It's either 37.5 hours, or you get an extra 30 minute break during the day!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
The contract is simply stating the hours that you will be paid. You are required from 8 until 5 which equates to 40 hours per week. However, you then need to deduct 1 hour per day as lunch which is unpaid therefore total paid hours will be 35.0

no mistake there, all perfectly normal0
