Hello......

I had a 'your computer is infected' warning pop-up so " I CAME OFF THE INTERNET LIKE LIGHTNING " I tend to look for the green tick saying the site is safe, so don't know how the pop-up came on/from where???

I have done a quick Malwarebytes scan which came up clear and am doing a full scan now.

Today no gadgets loaded as usual on the desktop @ boot up and no icons worked, I shut it down and rebooted and all was ok 2nd time.

Ccleaner shows about 40 ss.agentcore files in temp Internet files - are these normal???? (just a bit suspicious!!!)

just delete them with ccleaner and do a system restore to yesterday if you are worried about infections

Ccleaner is showing about 40 ss.agentcore files as deleted from temporary Internet files.

Nothing suspicious shows in A/v scans and Malwarebytes scans.

I just want to know if ss.agentcore are genuine files??

I am doing a system restore.

Dont put all your faith in the green ticks. Theyre only as good as the software database

Coming off the Internet "like lightning" after you have seen the message is like tripping over in a crowded shopping mall, then standing up quickly hoping nobody noticed........ it's too late dude, the damage has been done.

Have you done a Malwarebytes scan? Just search this forum for Malwarebytes and you will find a download link.

From your description it sounds like a variation on the Vista 2012 AV False AV going round, did it keep coming up saying you are infected, and a box looking like an AV box?

I have had the 'all clear' from "Malwarebytes, Avg and Superantispyware" scans.

I may have averted damage by not clicking on the fake virus pop-up. I only had one fake pop-up.

I am just being suspicious about the ss.agentcore files that are being deleted in Ccleaner after each cc scan.

Google doesn't pull up much about ss.agentcore so perhaps I am ok.

Run a Hijackthis scan if you want. Save this file to the desktop:
    http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/beta/HijackThis.exe

Then hold LEFT SHIFT & RIGHT CLICK and Run as Administrator or Run As (Current User) and untick 'protect me' for XP. Do a SCAN and SAVE A LOG. The log will pop up in notepad, so just copy/paste that into here. Don't 'Fix' anything.
  • this sounds like its a hoax! Was the message that appeared the exact same as a message that appears from your AV? it sounds like it was just mimicking your AV.
