Sky+ HD box keep switching itself off.

Anybody know if this is a fixable fault? Done the whole updating software thing through their support people but it's had no affect. It just turns off and then won't turn on again till you unplug it for a few moments. Been away for the weekend and it seems to have had no problem recording everything that was in the planner it just won't let us actually watch more than a minute or two of anything before it turns off. It does it watching live programes too not just recordings.

Any ideas?

    It sounds to me like a power supply issue (ie. hardware, not software) - have you had the box long?

    I'll take a bet that it's a Thompson box.These are notorious for the power supply problem.You have four options;

    1-Call Sky & pay £65 for a service call (or try to blag a free one)
    2-Upgrade to the HD box under the offers they have on at present (You might get one for free if you try & blag a service call,threaten to cancel)
    3-Buy one of E-Bay
    4-Replace the PSU.

    Eventually it'll fail & no amount of hard reboots,software updates ect will fix it.The symptoms you describe are common in a PSU failure.

    It is a HD box we've had it for about 2 1/2 years.

    My OH's an electrician so we might try a fix if it's that or replace it. It records everything fine though so must only be turning off when we're actually watching it which is what's making no sense.

    It's the power supply unit that's failing,I saw enough of those as a Sky Engineer to know,You can replace them for around £30.It'll get worse with HD faults,playback faults ect until it wont turn on at all.
