if someone had some wrong number plates by mistake on a car,BUT had the correct road tax disc in the window, can the wooden tops pick this upon their numberplate recognition camera?

  • How exactly could you accidentally put the wrong plates on a car? If you got caught you could be looking at a prison sentence.

You'd have to be a full on numpty not to clock it beforehand...

But if the wrong number did not exist then the alarm bells would go surely.... If it existed on a taxed car then maybe they woudnt I dont know.

Is this to get around the new insurance laws by any chance, by effectively cloning your own car to match a friend/family etc who does have insurance your hoping the cameras won't pick up on your car that only has temp insurance??

If the number plate was for a car that had a registered keeper, was taxed, insured and MOT'd (if over 3 years old), was not reported stolen or wanted in relation to any offences, then the ANPR system would not raise an alert.

How do you come to that conclusion?

Not fraud but perverting the course of justice. As to whether or not you'd be picked up for no insurance by ANPR depends if there is insurance on the plates fitted as does being picked up for road tax.

It is rather a silly thing to do though because having a different reg on the car to the tax disc implies prior knowledge which means a charge of perverting the course of justice which is a proper go to jail criminal offence, not just a motoring one.

Would all depend on the mistake. This has happened when a car has been purchased for a garage and no charges resulted.

There are plenty of other reasons why you could get pulled over or sussed with a cloned number plate though.

So your question is can the dross fit a wrong number plate on his chavmobile to avoid criminality ;) the lawful owner of the car you intend to clone would be contacted and when it becomes apparent a chav has cloned the number, the car reg or reg's will get linked into the PNC and the driver may then be arrested for attempt to pervert, and lots of other goodies :D let us know how you get on, hypothetically of course
