    Hi,

I have recieved a letter from the job center about the change of benefits to ESA , and that I have to fill a form and maybe go for medical assessment.

I suffer from recurent epilepsy and have seizures everyday

Does anyone know the ESA points system for epilepsy?

I get DLA low mobility and middle care and income support

    thank you

daily seizures score 15 points,as do weekly, monthly used to but now they score 9,dont forget to explain the side effect of the meds etc

  • Just got my result from my ESA change over. Didn't get into Support group but got work related ESA. Strange as I have incontinence after tonic clonic fits but this was ignored.
When they rang up to discuss it prior to the forms, all they were interested in was my relationship status. ESA work related becomes means tested after 12 mths. Suspect this is why they ignored my problems as this way I get no benefit at all after 12 mths.
Scared to appeal as this was stressful enough as it was.

If after careful study of the incontence descriptor for support group and your circumstances it may be worth appealing. I'd ask for the evidence they used first.. if you had a medical then ask DWP for copy of the ESA85 ATOS medical report... or otherwise the ESA85A ATOS report. From that document you'll also find prognosis which likely will determine reassessment timing. That potentially opens up a possibility of making a case for Support group at next reassessment instead if the timing is suitable. Supporting medical evidence could be crucial... specialist or GP opinion that you meet the support group descriptor in question and why could be powerful.

  • Thank you. I gave them supporting letters from both my GP and my neurologist. I think this why I didn't need a medical. I will ring and ask for the ESA85A as this may clarify things.
On the award notice it just states that the amounts on the pages apply only until 27 th Nov 2012. Bit concerned that this means it all starts again then
