Cancelling Tesco Clubcard Credit Card?

I've looked all over their website & either i'm missing it, or in order to cancel, you'll need to phone them.

No problem if i have to phone them.

What is a problem is being put on hold for half a day on an 0845 number only to be told there's some sort of early cancellation fee or such like.

To give as much info as i can think of you needing:

I took the card out July 2010.
I was misinformed & have paid off the balance in FULL last week. This has cleared & there is now no debits on the card, no pending transactions, nothing.

Am i good to go ahead & cancel this or is there some sort of penalty or condition i need to meet?
Have never cancelled a credit card before, only bank accounts & i've always been able to do them online.

  • I've never come across a card where there is a fee for cancellation. I can't imagine Tesco would be any different.

Thanks. It's just my first C/C cancellation & i didn't want to wait ages on an 0845 to find that i've got to give it longer after paying the card off or whatever. Nice to know in advance

    There is no cancellation fee.

01268 508023 will normally get you through.

Thanks. Was given an 0845 number though.

Called up & cancelled, no problem. Told the cancellation team is out of hours now, but the woman on the phone will cancel for me.

Passed the phone to the gf, she called up to do the same, was told the cancellation team is out of hours now, will get them to call you back within 48hours.

If you haven't paid the previous month in full as well, there is likely some 'trailing'/'residual' interest to come. Interest for the days between the date your statement was compiled and the date the payment was received.

So, be pepared, there will be a (small) bill next month.
