I am sorry to post on the techie forum, but I figured this is where there is going to be most experience.
I have just moved into a rental, and my DH has his office at home. In our last home the office chair did irrepairable damage to the carpet, and want to try to protect the carpet in the rental.
Does anyone know where I might be able to get a plastic runner to go under the chair?
Many thanks

I used to use an old carpet offcut (free from the local shop) to protect wooden floors when I had them, use the commercial kind of carpet without deep piles and the chair will roll around almost as well as on a smooth floor. I would imagine the pressure from the wheels will cause plastic to splinter and crack after a while - it did my wooden floor anyway hence the carpet offcut :-)0

Places like Staples will do plastic or wooden floor protectors, but they tend to be about £30.
I like mj12's idea about using carpet. Other cheap alternatives are using Castor Cups or cardboard from a box (which will be ugly, but no more so than using a wooden floor protector).0 -
A Google for "plastic carpet runner" brings up ever so many hits...0

There is such a thing as a chair mat, sometimes called a typists' chair mat, shaped rather like a filled in question mark:

The one I have is black rubber and the chair part is circular, but it does the same job.0 -
I've just bought a (felt) car boot mat from Lidl at £3.99 to use on my wooden floors. I just cut it into a square and it works well. Lidl's might have some left.0
