  • Hi,

How about home contents insurance, also check whether the landlord has buildings insurance etc.
    Good luck!
  • Hi Jay

Gas and electric together for £50 seems a little low unless you're really light on use. I live alone and don't think I over use either and gas comes to about £45 pm and electric about £23 pm.

Your car tax seems a little high at £25 pm, not sure though as I don't know what car you drive. Mine is about £165 per year so about £13 pm.

Food for a person on their own seems a little high at £200 pm, If you plan ahead and budget you would be able to get this down a little.

Internet at £20pm - You could shop around and usually get a package (sky) for about the same price but then it would include Sky TV phone calls and internet (only if you're prepared to sign up to a 12 or 18 month contract tho.

    What about:

TV license - £12 ish pm
House contents insurance - £16 ish pm
Phone line - £13 ish pm

    Thanks

    Mel

Hi Mel, was thinking I had put them in pretty low but I tend to work 6/7days a week. Will have to factor the other things into the budget :)

I have lived on my own for 5 years now, and would say your amount is about right. Wish I could use just £60 petrol a month, but then that depends how far you drive. I spend a little less on water, mine is £190 a year, so just under £16 a month.

I'd say it costs me £1,000 a month just to live on, then anything extra you can use for holiday, savings, newer car fund home improvements etc.

I think that's all about right apart from food which should be halved.
  • I always find some things are more expensive living alone, makes budgeting all the more important! good luck and take care xxx

Water - £25 - on a water meter, this could be £15-18, depending where you are
    Gas / Leccy - £50
    Mobile - £13
    Internet - £20
Food - £200- pigsy. £100's enough. £200 would be treats galore and several takeaways a month.

These are car costs, not living alone costs:
    Road tax - £25
    Car Insurance - £67
    Car Maintance - £25
    Petrol - £60

    Total - £1015

    TV License
    Contents Insurance
