Sending money abroad

I know I have seen suggestions on MSE, but my searches have not yet brought up the threads I vaguely remember, so I need help.......

Other than using our bank, what are the safest/easiest/cheapest ways to send money abroad, in this instance to Norway?

OK, I have now looked at Moneybookers and currencies.co.uk, has anyone used either of these? Who will have the best exchange rate ?

Any others I should look at?

3 companies I have used regularly are Hargreaves Lansdown (Bristol), Smart Currency Exchange (London) and Excel Currencies.

None of them can give a guaranteed rate until you are ready to trade (ie account open), and you need to supply proof of id for verification to open account.

Best thing you could do is to tell them how much you want to trade and what will be their difference from "mid-bank rate" or "spot rate" for that amount. A decent currency website for checking up to date rates is https://www.xe.com

Fairfx also do international transfers, not sure how their rates compare the companies you have found though
