I'll save you the time residential land is private land. Not only is clamping being outlawed so is any form of immobilization this would include blocking in.

EXCEPT that the propsed ban does not apply if

"there is express or implied consent by the driver of the vehicle to

restricting its movement by a fixed barrier, and

the barrier was present (whether or not lowered into place or otherwise

restricting movement) when the vehicle was parked."

So if you have a gate etc you CAN still clamp or block in...I expect a lot of car parks that have no barriers will suddenly get them even if they don't ever lower them ..once this is passed in law ...when is a ban not a ban .?

Pathetic piece of legislation isn't it ...lets hope there are still some amendments to come as it passes through the Lords.

I suspect that refers only to immobilisation by said "fixed barrier". I'm pretty sure clamping will not be allowed.

    Clamping not needed.

When they come back swear blind its your car. Youve been working on it all day.

Have a bag of nuts & bolts handy to show them look ive taken all these off already.

Or just take the wheels off & pop it on some stands or bricks and go out.

Those ultra sticky yellow plastic Parking charge notices that some traffic wardens use are often a good deterrent. :D

But seriously. I feel the OP is being unduly nice and lenient which is why she's being walked over time and time again. Next time just block them in and get on with whatever you're doing. These parents are being incredibly selfish parking in her drive - what is it about parents who think that children are a disability and that they get preferential treatment.

My friend lives directly opposite a private school in Maidstone and he had this problem for a while. He asked the Headteacher to put a note in the weekly newsletter which was useless. He asked them to move if he was at home when they parked on his drive and was met with a barrage of abuse. In the end he just blocked them in. If they were first time offenders and polite he'd let them out. If they were rude and repeat offenders he'd down a few cans of beer. Sometimes the Police would be called and he would refuse to drive for fear of drink driving. :D The thing is being blocked in for a long time meant that the selfish women never did it again.

In the school I was in the evening for prospective parents was a nightmare for parking and brought out massvie amounts of inconsideraton including examples, as above, of parking on peoples drives. The police when asked actually suggested parking in front of the offending car and when asked to move it indicate that they were not safe to drive because of alcohol. In the event the owner returned to his car after a couple of hours and used so many four letter words when blocked in that the police had to be summoned back to deal with this.
My experience near schools is that parents apparently believe that
    a. their darlings cannot walk more than about 74cm
    b. they are entitled to stop/turn/park wherever they wish
    c. any inconvenience they cause is entirely justified because their time is more important than anyone elses

You can't reason with them so some direct action short of keying their car is the only way to stop them.

I'd go for the wait until they are parked on drive then chain the gates shut, and let them call the police... :)

Got the local bristol city supporters park on our road and i am just waiting for someone to try that on me... they will wish they never did

I agree with what you are saying and would block in a car if it parked in front of my driveway, if I had one! I also have kids in school and I also work in a school - but would never block a driveway nor use a residents' bay.

But the other side of the coin is the obsession that residents near schools have about this!

In my area they have started parking their cars badly, with half-car gaps in between, deliberately to stop anyone else parking there as well, in the non-restricted roads. They shout at anyone who dares to park legally anywhere near their house and get another neighbour to get their car out of a driveway to take their place if they want to go out!

And one example that amused me, I parked legally on a double yellow line opposite my children's school a few months ago which is near houses but in front of a very long wall. Legally because I was collecting my son and his luggage who had just got back from a school trip abroad. Took 5 or 10 minutes and when loading the bags I spotted a mad resident pretty much 'fly' out of her front door about a hundred yards along the road, and glare in my direction!

As I know it's allowed to park on DYL (with no kerb blips which would indicate a loading restriction) when loading I was waiting for the mad rubbish she might say about 'parking illegally' etc. But no, she pulled out a camera and started taking pictures. I smiled, posed with the luggage in my hand and waved with the other! I thought, I hope she sends my mugshot to the Head (my boss!)! :rotfl:

Block them in for an hour or so. I've done it before when people parked on a driveway in an old house of mine to go to the shop next door for an hour while they browsed. There may be a couple of confrontations, but they tend to pick up the message faster.

A local hospital used to stick a very courteous sign asking them not to park on the drive on the windscreen, right in the drivers view. However they stuck the courteous sign on with the strongest adhesive Known to man!:p
