Since 14 June my PC(Win 7) has shown that there is 1 important update and 4 optional updates.

They are installed(successfully according to the history) but immediately re-appear as updates waiting to be 'downloaded' and have been installed 'successfully' every time the PC is switched off - I have also tried to install them without turning off the PC.

The detail is:
Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242)
Download size: 2.6 MB
You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.
Update type: Important
A security issue has been identified leading to MFC application vulnerability in DLL planting due to MFC not specifying the full path to system/localization DLLs. You can protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

Has anyone any idea please how I can get rid of these updates?

I had this some months ago, and was able to sort matters out by searching for the relevant 8 updates on the Microsoft Updates website, and downloading and installing them manually. Of course, YMMV...
