Iron advice

Options
Just had a blazing row with my wife. She went to do some ironing, and I told her not to use the iron (I used it yesterday and it was leaking water from the bottom, near to where it sits on the plug adaptor). She has accused me of "breaking it", so I showed her where the limescale has built up around the bottom plate, probably causing the seal to go around the join. It was leaking water pretty badly yesterday, but it is over 20 years old. I have high blood pressure anyway, but now my head is pounding and I feel really sick.
She is insisting on using the iron, and I cannot believe that she is being so stupid - WATER AND ELECTRICITY!
She is a scientist, so should know better, but she seems to get arrogant and nasty when these things happen.
She cannot see that I am just worried for her safety, and I have suggested that we just go out and buy a new one.

So, any suggestions for around £50.

Tesco value ones used to be a Fiver. I have a spare iron if you live in East yorkshire.

Are you talking about his wife....?:p

That would be one way of shutting her up!

Not sure why you think that your domestic squabbles are of general interest. Why have you not just gone out and replaced it. Ours cost less than £20.

To be fair if you thought it was broken beyond repair yesterday, mentioning that at the time and suggesting a replacement was purchased as soon as the shops opened would have been more appropriate than waiting until she decided to use it and then pointing out that it was broken. What did you expect to happen if the next time the iron was brought out for use was immediately before heading out for some important function?

If the boot was on the other foot and she waited until you sat down to watch your favourite TV show or important match on the telly before telling you that the TV stopped working while she was watching it recently, you'd think it pretty out of order and ask why she waited to tell you!

I did the ironing on Saturday night, when she was in bed, then went to bed myself. I only remembered it, when she came to use it.
