Last year we had a Conservatory built at our House and I never got round to adding an extra Alarm Sensor to it. !At the time I rang up the Electrician who had installed our House Alarm 5 years earlier. !At the time of buying the Alarm it appeared it was a very common product. The little Digital Keypad says SL Compact on it, as does the Control box that is hidden away upstairs. !Anyway, I called out the said Electrician last year but it transpires that he has retired due to Ill health (he's 68 now). However, he's a top bloke and he told me "I can't go routing wires under floor boards anymore because of my health so I suggest that you run the wire from the Conservatory to the control Panel and I will call round and connect it up for free. I think that's a great gesture, but as I am aware of his health I want to make this as simple as possible for him. So, I have 2 questions.....
1. Now I have made the small channel under the floor boards and have drilled the hole high in the conservatory wall for the wire to pass through I need to know what type of alarm wire I need to buy. Ie, how many core and where can I buy just 20m etc??? I'm sure at the time the Alarm wire was White and either 6 or 8 core.!
Secondly, when he called round he observed that our conservatory contains a LOT of glass. Even the roof is glass! Now, I remember him mentioning that because of the heat in Summer inside the Conservatory and the amount of light in there (I presume he meant Sun Rays) then we had to have a special movement sensor to stop false activations. He told me "A standard P.I.R will just keep going off. With all this bright light shining directly into the Conservatory you need a..... ?-£&@=€$# sensor. Obviously, as you can see I can't remember what type of sensor he mentioned. So, question 2...Can anyone enlighten me on what motion sensor this is, bearing in mind the Conservatory is subjected to a Hell of a lot of light (and heat in Summer)?
Thanks all.!

Thats exactly what he needs. Great for conservatories and in fact the whole house to virtually eliminate false alarms, I replaced all mine with this sort not just my conservatory. It needs a moving heat source and a reflection from the radar field at the same time to trigger.
I would highly recommend THIS ONE though, excellent brand, great looking sleek modern design, adjustable but very sensitive and good value. I have fitted loads for myself and other people as upgrades.
6 core alarm cable is sufficient, 2 cores for power, 2 cores for the alarm contact, 2 cores for the anti-tamper contact. About £12 for 100m drum on the same supplier as above, you could ebay the excess but its not expensive.0 -
Ahhhhhhh, thanks guys. That's the thing! Cheers!0
