possible penicillin stain on carpet

My lodger moved out yesterday and has left a big pink stain on the floor. She told me it was irn bru that she spilt last week but I don't believe her. She had tried to clean it and then I tried again last night but even with the vanish shot spray that I have found lifts most stains there is no colour coming out on the cloth.

This leads me to think it was half heartedly cleaned at the time of the spill, if at all and now the fibres of the cream carpet have absorbed the pink colour.

The reason I think it is penicillin or something like that is because there was a bottle of pink medicine in a clear plastic bag that was leaking in the bag (funnily enough the same colour as the stain!). It had chinese writing on it but looked like the pink flouro penicilin that children get.

So far 2 shop bought cleaners have been tried and I will get a professional in to clean them but I don't think it will shift. This is going to mean buying a new carpet as the stain is near the door so can't even be disguised.

I am so annoyed as the house is going on the market next week and the photos are being taken tomorrow. The carpet is cream and totally synthetic so bleach could be used on it but this would make the patch lighter than the rest of the carpet.

Any ideas?

Chuck a rug over it for the pics. Don't worry about it for viewings - 'cos like as not your purchaser will hate the colour anyway and bin it as soon as you have gone.

    Did you read my OP?

It did not state bathroom - it was her bedroom beside her bed.

The tenant was a lodger which means I live there too so it isn't a rental property. The rooms haven't always been rented out and when I bought the carpets I wasn't intending to rent the rooms out, I used that room as an office.

I did take money off her deposit so don't mind buying a new carpet for the room but if I could get the stain off I would be happier and would then refund the lodger what was left of the retained deposit after getting the place cleaned.

She brought her mum up with her to fight her battle last night and I conceded that they would pay half the cost of the new carpet so I retained £100. Her mum was trying to tell me that a large stain that wouldn't come off and didn't look like there had been any attempts to clean it at the time was wear and tear :rotfl:

£100 isn't too bad. Just put some cheap carpet down...if you must..I'd just leave it and let the purchasers put the style and colour of choice down themselves.
