A gas safety certificate is not the same thing-that is what landlords have to supply by law for tenanted properties.

A Gas Safety certificate is just that, a safety inspection, on a Gas Safety certificate piece of paper

A Landlord Certificate is different to that and has it's own form and is the only type of form allowed for this legal certificate.

A service/maintenance sheet is again a different form, as is servicing anything in a caravan on LPG etc.

You have to make sure you get the correct certificate.

In your case a gas safety certificate will suffice, but if any faults found, could cost you a lot more than £66. You need to get this done before you possibly talk to the builder, otherwise you won't know how much to knock off his bill.

Just wanted to thankyou to all that gave their advice. Saw builder and we were able to sort through the issues and we have made a final payment that both parties are happy with.
Local engineer coming to inspect on Wednesday and cheque postdated for when safety checked.
    Thank you again!

Sorry to tell you this but a "post dated" cheque can be paid in immediately. Banks don't check or care what date you put, except if has expired (6 Months)

    You are correct.

Actually if you tell the bank you have written a post dated cheque to X for Y and do not want it debited from your account until the due date they will honour that request. But you have to tell them - they don't guess.

Whilst it is common banking practice to reject cheques over 6 months old its totally at their discretion. In actual fact the legal validity of a cheque is 6 years.
