How we work out income from self employment

We normally use your previous years trading accounts to calculate your net profit, but we will work out how much tax and national insurance you would pay using the current years rates.
This means the amount we use for tax and National Insurance will not be exactly the same as that calculated by HM Revenues and Customs.
  • Thanks for the response, doggle. I understand that's the norm but I've shown them, and proved to them, a significant drop in my earnings. I can't understand why they can't be flexible enough to take that into account.

Question: Does anyone know if it costs the LA if I were to appeal their decision and it went to tribunal?
