Thanks again for the pointers - I have done most of what you suggested. Only thing I can't figure out is how to get rid of Ask toolbar, as it isn't in the add/remove programmes list & there's no option to uninstall it anywhere else that I can see.

PC is running smoothly again though, so all is good

Hi,

Here's the new log if you don't mind taking a look. I got rid of Java but then tried opening Azeureus and realised I needed it, so redownloaded it.

Also, I loaded up IE (never use it anyway, but that's where the Ask toolbar used to be) & isn't there anymore, so it must be gone.

I'd update Adobe to Adobe X, as it has a 'protected mode' and the latest security updates. There are more exploits out there for Adobe PDF reader than any other program (the other more common ones are Java, Adobe Flash, and IE). Personally I'm using Foxit PDF reader (which has it's own exploits), but there are other PDF programs out there such as PDF Xchange.

If you are using Azureus, then it might mean it's out of date as that's now called Vuze. If you are going to use P2P, it's safer to run it behind a sandbox like https://www.sandboxie.com
