Kitchen worktops and Howdens?

Just putting my kitchen order to bed and the last thing was a final price check.

The howdens solid oak (I need 2x3m and a 1.86) came to £828 incl oil and vat.

However I've found the same spec oak in 4m lengths which would be good as I want a continuous long side if at all possible (its 3051mm).

BUT more importantly one quote is £328 less and the other £428 less!!!

Just wondered if anyone had gone elsewhere with worktops and if this creates any unseen problems?

Cheers one and all yet again :D

I do a lot of installs of Howdens Kitchens and always do supply and fit. I never get my Worktops from Howdens as they are not cost effective and have a limited range. If you source form elsewhere, just make sure that the worktop depth is 616mm.

    Phill tx once again.

I've found "Prime Grade Oak with 80mm staves which run for the full length of the worktop unlike the finger jointed panels".

However it's dimensions are xxxxmm x 640mm x 40mm. Being a bit wider +24mm would that not simple give me a little more over hang or would it look odd?

Or could you point me at a supplier who could offer something at a good price?

Howdens are well OTT for worktops, this is how they make their money. Google independent worktop suppliers, and you will be amazed at the prices and variety.

    I used..

for my Howdens kitchen, my fitter ordered it and passed on any discount from his account that he got. I was able to go to a nearby showroom but they also send out samples on request.

You could have an overhang at the front or get your fitter to take 24mm off the back.

Well we've gone for 80mm full length staves. We are going for the more rustic with knots version (hope it turns out rustic and not a jungle of knots :D) and that saves us £317 (that's on 5600mm of worktop).

Already gone on 4 new internal doors :j

The width is 640 but we are using one as a thin breakfast bar so overlap either side will be perfect. That leaves only two lengths that need a bit of a trim or, and I've only seen this discussed, recessed into the wall??? Phill you make it sound easy, hopefully our builder thinks so, although to be fair compared to cut outs for sink, hob and soil pipe perhaps it is.

hope this renovation remains as much fun once it gets started
