Hello all,
I am moving, for the first time, to a flat next week. I am trying to look for the cheapest fixed dual fuel tariff. I checked with several comparison websites-- uswitch, moneysupermarket, energyhelpline, which...
With uswitch.com, I found out that if I say "no" to the question "just moved house or getting ready to move?", I get a cheaper quote than if I say "yes" (almost £250 cheaper). I tried to continue with this application to see which stage I could get to, and I got asked how long have I been living in the property (I put zero). After this, I was asked for my Direct Debit details.
If I continue with this application, will I actually get the cheaper price (compared to the one when I say that I'm just about to move)? Or will I get found out (that I'm actually not switching, but getting a new contract altogether) and get charged more? I'm thinking that if I do this, the name that will appear on the contract and the online bill may be the previous tenant's (I don't know who it is) but the money will come out of my account. Also, why do "existing" customers get a more cheaper tariff than new ones?
Many thanks in advance.
Lucille
