I did mine online, and it was delivered this evening. Took mother to Morrisons (hell on earth) yesterday, so that's it. What I don't have now, I'm not having at all.
Good luck to everyone who has yet to brave the stores, and to those of you who work in supermarkets, thanks! 1356.gif

Mine all arrived yesterday morning from Tesco. The substitutions were few and were acceptable. Only problem was I ordered smoked salmon, adn got smoked mackerel! LOL! The Tesco lady on the phone was really nice, and refunded me the money, so Dad and partner will have to have something else for Christmas day brekkie. I've got smoked salmon and cream cheese thingys from M & S so they can have those!
Meat tomorrow from my butcher, over the road, and that's it. G & T for me now!
    Merry Christmas Everybody!!!!!

  • I used to work for Tesco on the checkouts.

Can I just say never be embarrassed or worried to ask the checkout operator to wait until you have loaded your shopping out of the trolley onto the conveyer belt. Same too when you've got that bit done and start to scan and pack to ask them to slow down for you to catch up.

I actually used to ask the customer if they wanted me to wait for them and also watch how they were going with their packing making sure I didn't go too fast and slowing up where needed.

I know this isn't the same for somewhere like Lidls but the big lot you should take advantage of them doing it right and not you being flustered and feeling you are obliged to go at their rate of pace....you are paying them at the end of the day ;)
Not in debt at the moment, but been there in the past and realise I'm the kind of person who could easily fall back into it with the self destructing spending button so making sure I keep on top of being a good girl.

I had a nice time in the supermarket today - twice :) I think this probably really proves I'm mad as everyone stresses!

I went round town and to the Farmers Market which was good as usual - I always chat and joke as I look along there, only problem today was my bags got very heavy - I blame the sprout stalk! (And my Mother, as it's for her)

Then went to M&S to pick up a tiny turkey roast (having figured that we will have no facility to eat leftovers as we're out being entertained for 4 days or so after Christmas day, I went for a free-range best quality minipack, probably paying more for the size, but happy with the choice.) I ended up with only three items and headed up to the tills which all had formidable queues - the first things you saw as you came into the store was the queue from the till to the back wall of the shop! It turned out that they were very uneven and I found one which people seemed to be ignoring! Sure, I was behind a very full trolly, but I was only two customers back! So I was out really quickly - and very bemused at the people still going into a line 25 deep :o

Back home to grab the lottery tickets I'd forgotten and into the local (medium size) Tesco for milk, yorkshire puds and a few other bits. It was very busy in there but much more fluid with people everywhere, rather than at the tills. I heard two staff talking - one full of Christmas cheer and the power of his silly hat, chivvying another assistant who sounded knackered as she commented that her heels had been sawed into four times that morning and that's why she wasn't joyous - poor girl. The journey through the till was exceedingly slow as yes, people were kitting out for six months in a bunker, as ever, but it was so nice to get all communal, I had a bit of banter with the chap behind (I defended my scant purchases and said I knew I was doing it all wrong, he supported my right to have teacakes and carrot for Christmas dinner if I like :D) and then the guy in front (whose wife was steering him wherever was out of harm's way in the process) was chatting away too. Add in the lovely sunny woman on the checkout (picked purposely) and it was a nice moment in a busy manic world.
