Microwave smoking when on convection mode!

We have a Tesco microwave/convection/grill all in one thingy which we bought about 1.5-2 years ago.
Just now my husband put a quiche in to it and set it to convection to cook and smoke started coming out of it and the inside went very red.
Does this mean it is kaput? Is there anything we can do to fix it? My husband thinks it might just be burning food remnants but the smoke looked like it was coming from the top bit where it heats up?

What does the smoke smell like? That should tell you what is burning.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
