    Hi

I have sold things on ebay from time to time over the last 5 years. My feedback is 100% which I am quite proud of. I think you are fine so long as you are completely and utterly honest. Get a good photo and list any faults or imperfections in your description. Be realistic about what you will get for things and you will make money.

I have made £60 this month and have more to sell.

I have never had anything lost or had anyone ask for their money back either, but maybe I have been lucky.

    Hi Yorkshirelass,

Thats a great amount to have made, if I can do that I will be well chuffed.

I have an old laptop that I am hoping to list. It doesnt work, and a couple of the keys are a bit wonky, but, will say this when I list it.

Hi there, dont worry about asking on here, wel can help each other out lol. Its mostly clothes and toys that I would be selling too. Have a couple of large items that I would be hoping to list too but for pick up only.

The postage gets me too, but, I thought the highlands was just standard posting? I think I would just be selling to people in UK only.

Thanks Jackie! I have been very good at buying - don't seem to have any probs with that :D;) So have got feedback, even if only as a buyer.

I said about the postage, as I've often seen: 'If you're in the highlands (or the following postcode) p&p will be more - please phone for more details before ordering' on certain websites.

Make sure you do cash on collection & not PayPal for collect items ;)

Personally I would start with someone cheaper/smaller first. Get the hang of it before you go for the dearer things. One hting though, buyers can only have good feedback, it is impossible for a buyer to get anything other than positive feedback.

However set your seller preferences tightly, details of how to do that here (I think) as well as other seller tips

If you use Royal Mail then all the uK is covered on the same price. If you use a courier then you can put the line in about different prices, but you will have to find a way of easily enforcing it as the invoice will automatically charge them your postage rate as it will see they are in the UK. It might be easier to stick with smaller things that can go Royal mail and get a feel for things before you branch out into heavy things that need a courier.

Oh sorry............may have phrased that wrong!

I wasn't intending to put 'that line' in.

I've just seen it and was worried that if for example I'd looked up postage for something weighing 800g and going 2nd class it said £2.30, that if someone from the places I'd mentioned won the auction and I trot off to the PO and then got told: 'Oh, that's £3.90 to there'
If you see what I mean!

I have 2 things ending soon that I listed last weekend - both with bids. :D

Ps Do the invoices/thx for payment/been dispatched etc get sent to buyer automatically or do you have to send them? (Silly question - I know!)

One thing to remember is Southern Ireland is classed as Europe for postage costs.
COP covers you for up to £46, which is the same amount that you can claim on recorded, so saving 77p on each transaction. Make sure you keep the receipts & that the PO write the postcode & house number on each receipt.
Always weigh each item with the packaging that you're going to use, buyers don't like paying any more than the stamp price & will mark your charges down for it.
Make sure that you can post regularly, I always post either same day or next day & my dsr's are dropping.
As others have said you only hear when something goes wrong on here. There are still far far more honest people on ebay than people waiting to rip you off.
Buyers expectations are high, if you're not sure whether something's in very good condition or good condition, list it as good, anything marked, torn, missing buttons I personally wouldn't bother with.
I looked at a dress the other day, the seller had said that there were a few marks on it but because of the cut or pattern or something it wasn't really visible. Why anyone would want to buy someone else's stained clothing I don't know.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm a business seller. I've sold about 800 items in past 3 months. About 15 of those were sent via a courier, the rest via Royal Mail. I have 6 claims to put through for lost items. About average 3 months for me. 6 losses in 785 posted items.

I started actively selling last November due to selling my Mums house and had so much stuff. Its been very worthwhile.
Its very much something you can pick up as you go along and you learn from your mistakes.
I found that for me it was best to just list weekends so that I then have all week to get things posted once payment made and can start afresh each week.
Had a few issues with a couple of people trying it on but found once you challenged them they didn't take things any further. Two items lost out of around 500.
I decided to run it all seperately and all money made going towards a holiday.

Thanks Minnie. Do you just obtain proof of posting or should you send items by recorded delivery?

    Jackie

COP gives you the same insurance as Recorded (£46, I think) - over that you should use Special delivery (I think that's up to £500).

The general consensus from the experts (as I've learnt on here) is that Recorded really does nothing for you. It might track and prove delivery, but usually doesn't, and it offers no more insurance. Get proof of posting from the Post Office, and that's enough to claim if it gets lost.

Remember that as a seller, the onus is on *you* to prove delivery and make a claim. So if the buyer says they haven't got it, you should refund and then make the claim yourself - don't send them the COP, and certainly don't say it's the RM's fault, nothing to do with you!

I'm a business seller and in past 3 months have only sent about 400 items, mainly standard 2nd class or standard airmail and a few standard parcels. No losses at all since last December.

My losses are currently around 1 in 1000
