Redundancy and Relocation Costs

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice. Hopefully things will work out and it won't be needed, but I don't want to be complacent. I've recently been put at risk of redundancy by a large corporation. However, I've applied for another role internally and the company have agreed to give me the role as an alternative (it's the exact same work, they just want it done in an office - I'm currently home based). Sickeningly, the reason most often given for the need to move is so that, if a call comes through on the main enquiry number, the person answering can see if I'm at my desk to transfer the call to me. The problem is that to be in the office, I need to relocate several hundred miles. I now have 3 months in which to sell my house and move, as they have agreed to be flexible with me and let me work a couple of days a week here and a few in the new office.

I've asked the HR Advisor dealing with my 'case' several times what happens if I can't sell my house and thus can't afford to relocate, but they're ignoring my emails. There's a 3 month trial period and I suspect it may still end in redundancy if I can't get the house sold.

As part of the move, the company are offering relocation support, which I can start claiming back immediately - the first thing being the cost of marketing my house, which I will be reclaiming on Monday. If, however, I can't sell my house and do end up redundant, are the company likely to deduct these expenses from my redundancy package? The house was only marketed on the basis that I'm moving at the company's request in order to keep my job. I really can't afford to lose out on the £900 it has cost to put the house up for sale.

As said above, hopefully it won't come to this, but I'm just looking for people's thoughts on the situation in the meantime.

Camera at home and a screen in the office, internet connection job done.

    Cheaper than a relocation package.

    win win.

You have to negotiate on the non refundable nature of any expences related to the relocation.

Make sure you get the trial period in writing otherwise you could come unstuck.

You can decide if this is a suitable alternative if selling is one of your criteria then that should be OK..

Why not look for another job anyway to give more options.
